The Wake up! Montessori Early Education Centre is grateful to have been supported by various organisations and individuals. We'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to:

2019

  • Wilde Ganzen https://www.wildeganzen.nl/about-wilde-ganzen made a generous financial contribution which means that we can now implement the third and final phase of our building plan and add three more classrooms and a flat to our centre.

2017

  • Stichting Wake up! Windhoek in the Netherlands, which has been supporting the centre financially from its inception in 2010. Their monthly contribution is raised through fundraisers at schools and events and donations by private individuals, who show a continuous support of our cause.
  • The Schoevers Foundation for sponsoring the studies of our teachers, with the aim to improve our standard of education in order to give our learners the best.
  • The Lions Club Stormarn from Germany together with the Lions Club Windhoek Alte Feste for donating a shade-port for our playground. We thank them for their partnership and ongoing support of our Centre.
  • The Windhoek International School who did a fundraiser and selected Wake up! as the beneficiary of their proceeds of N$16,000. This money is earmarked for maintenance jobs and playground development.
  • An unspecified fund from The Netherlands donated €15,000 for the stormwater channel and further building projects to be identified.
  • WML Consulting Engineers for the measurements and calculations done for the stormwater channel.
  • The Indonesian Embassy in Namibia who paid us a visit in November and donated stationery, food items and paint.
  • Hans Mulder, our ‘house architect’, for his continuous advice in all matters regarding maintenance and construction, his willingness to solicit support from other players in the industry and his supervision this year of the construction of the channel.
  • Private Sponsors in Windhoek, who through their monthly donation sponsor the place of child.
  • Ms. A. Schmuki who since 2013 has been donating 1000 Swiss Francs each year in support of the centre.

2016

  • Stichting Wake up! Windhoek in the Netherlands, which has been supporting the centre financially from its inception in 2010. Their monthly contribution is raised through clever fundraisers at schools and events and donations by private individuals.
  • KMA Architects, a local company who has committed to a donation of N$10,000 per month for two years from October 2015, taking on a social responsibility to invest in education.
  • The Schoevers Foundation for sponsoring the studies of our teachers, with the aim to improve our standard of education in order to give our learners the best.

2014

  • The New Apostolic Church handed over a cheque of N$66585.10 in November for the renovation of the school hall, which has been rented out to the church every Sunday since 2013.
  • Ms. Tjinjeka, one of our parents, donated 20 gowns and mortar boards to the centre to celebrate in style the graduation of the children leaving us for Grade 1.
  • Stichting 1913 in The Netherlands allocated a fund of €15,000 towards capacity building of staff for a period of three years.
  • The Pupkewitz Foundation donated tiles and tile cement to enable us to redo the floor of our hall - a well-used area of the Centre which is used for eating, playing, reading and more.
  • LMD Trading & Investment CC, the company of a grandparent of one of our learners, donated curtains for the two new classrooms, which were made by the women from Penduka.
  • Primary School De Starter in Groningen donated €768 to buy tables and chairs for the new classrooms Furthermore this school raised money in order to build five playgrounds for centres in Namibia, of which Wake up! will be one.

2013

  • The Halssila Daycare Centre in Finland of a previous volunteer at Wake up! Ulla sold soup on our behalf and raised N$1014.85 with a Fun Event about Namibia.
  • The Lions Club Windhoek Alte Feste sponsored the fence which was erected around the school’s property early this year. On top of that they agreed to sponsor 50% of the cost of two additional classrooms: N$233,100.29
  • K. Munting Architects donated a sum of N$50,000, which has enabled us to finally pay off the builder of the first construction phase of the centre.
  • The Harry Lierens Foundation teamed up with the Lions in Windhoek and donated €22,000 towards the new classrooms and their furnishings.
  • The coastal town of Noordwijk hosted a whole series of fundraisers on behalf of Wake up!
    • De Zeehonk Primary School raised €1300 with a Fun Event
    • Theatre Group ZEEPAANZEE donated the proceeds of the ‘Boerekos’ which preceded their Farmers’ Drama: €2200
    • The Solidarity Fund KGK Amsterdam donated €800 for a rainwater harvesting tank for the vegetable garden to be established.
    • The Christian Youth organised a Volleyball Tournament on behalf of Wake up! and raised over €1000.
  • During 2013 the protestant primary schools in Noordwijk Wakersduin, Zeehonk, Hoffenne/Vierboet, Duinpieper and Zorgcentrum Willem van de Bergh together with the Protestant Church raised € 12.904,48 on behalf of Wake up!
  • The J.F. Kennedy Montessori School in The Hague raised €1750 with a Fun day.

2012

  • The Montessori Primary School Wassenaar held a Spring Festival and raised €2131.35 on behalf of Wake up!
  • The Haags Montessori Lyceum organised a so-called Challenge Day and raised €1000 with games, fun and food.
  • The Namibia United States Association of Alumni organised a Hunger Banquet and raised N$40,000 for Wake up!, raising awareness about people in Namibia who face hunger every day.
  • The Hallberg Foundation from Sweden donated a series of Early Readers for the pre-school and lower primary children who come to us after school.

2011

  • Staff training during 2011-2013 was guaranteed by the ASML Foundation from The Netherlands. On the 21st of October 2010 a Donation Agreement was signed between ASML Foundation and the Stichting Wake up! Windhoek in The Netherlands worth €16,000 towards a Capacity Building Programme of staff, allowing teaching staff to become qualified Montessori Teachers and developing English language and computer skills.
  • The Harry Lierens Foundation donated €20,000 to furnish the kitchen of the Wake up! Centre, turning it into a state-of-the-art school kitchen catering for a growing number of children
  • The Valkenbos Montessori School in The Hague donated a Pink Tower.
  • The Montessori School Noordwijk raised over 6000 Euros with their Namibia themed School Project in April 2011.
  • The International Women’s Association of Namibia donated three perspex geography puzzles from South Africa.

2010

  • St.Paul's College, Windhoek donated N$1,460 to buy snack tables and stationery.
  • The International Women’s Association of Namibia donated N$10,000 towards Montessori learning materials for the centre. They also bought a tree for our garden and Montessori puzzles.
  • Maupertuus College, Driebergen donated the sum of €1000 (N$10,991) to the Wake up! Project earmarked for buying school furniture and learning materials. About 110 children between 7 and 18 years old skated for Wake up!

2009: Construction and equipping of the Centre

Dutch donors

The organisation instrumental to the existence of the Wake up! Centre is the Penduka Development Trust, who took the initiative for a children’s project and raised funds in The Netherlands to build the centre. There were three Dutch donors involved:

  • Lions Club Regte Heide Tilburg, was the main fundraiser for the building fund.

Then there were two co-financing donor organisations:

Namibian donors

Various businesses in Namibia were involved too:

  • Stauch & Partners Architects, Windhoek made one of their architects available to draft the Building Plan of the centre and assist in the supervision of the building on site.
  • CSA, Windhoek provided the technical drawings of the building.
  • Richard Frankle & Partners, Quantity Surveyors, Windhoek assisted during the building phase with a Cost Estimation.
  • Lorentz Angula Inc., Attorneys, Notaries and Conveyancers Trust, Windhoek registered the Penduka Daycare Trust free of charge.
  • Obeco, Windhoek donated tiles for the kitchen.
  • Coral Coatings, Okahandja donated floor paint for the hall.
  • R.J. Rogers Agencies C.C, Windhoek donated linoleum for the floor of our main classroom.
  • The City of Windhoek donated 10 tables and 30 chairs and the Division of Parks donated Three Aloes to our garden.

Penduka Multicultural from The Netherlands sponsored the curtains for the centre.


Friends of Wake up!

Apart from support from businesses, schools and charities the Wake up! Centre receives donations from individuals: Friends of Wake up! who donate regularly and others who make us the beneficiary of their anniversaries or other good fortune.

Without them we could not run the centre!
