Volunteer at Wake up!
At Wake up! we are looking for volunteers to help us realise our passion: educating young children. We would love to have teachers-in-training, graduates or retired teachers with interest or experience in Montessori education. However, we also do consider volunteers without training but a passion for working with young children. What you will need is energy and patience. What we can offer is a professional working environment with lots of development potential. You can get involved in assisting our teachers on-the-job, curriculum and material development, IT training & support of teachers and assisting our after-school programme.
We are also looking for volunteers to help us realise various projects such as setting up a reading programme for Grade 1-3 leaners (age 6-9) for which we have a container that needs to be turned into a reading room. If teaching is not your thing, we are also happy to have volunteers with handy skills and initiative, to assist our catering activities in the kitchen or who can help us to further develop our vegetable garden and playground. If you can spend a few weeks or months with us, we would love to hear from you.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and all backgrounds. Unlike many organisations, we don't charge volunteers. However, you will need to be able to cover your living costs for the duration of your time with us. These will include accommodation, which is sometimes available from Penduka at a subsidised rate for volunteers. You will also need to cover the cost of local transport, typically by taxi.
We follow the Namibian government school calendar, three terms a year, with the long summer holiday in December/January.
