Celebrating in style!

On Saturday we celebrated the 5th birthday of Wake up! and also the inauguration of the newly upgraded hall and playground. It was a joyous occasion with singing, dancing and cake, as well as heartfelt thank-yous to our sponsors and friends. We were happy to be joined by some of the children who previously attended Wake up! and are now in primary school and to hear from them how well they are progressing. After only 5 years, it is fantastic to see how Wake up! is already having a positive influence on the education of these young learners from Otjomuise.
We thank everyone who has helped us to reach this milestone. Particular thanks, at this time, were extended to the Pupkewitz Foundation and the New Apostolic Church for their generous contributions to the hall renovations, to Hans Mulder - architect and long-time friend of Wake up! - for his invaluable assistance over the years, and to Raymond, the builder who worked tirelessly to get the hall and playground ready.
We look forward to many more successful years!
Playground progress

A great team effort on Saturday resulted in major progress towards the development of our new playground. The sandpit is almost finished and just needs the lining to be put in place ready for the sand. It is in the shape of a car, complete with a bonnet, number plate and three - yes three! - steering wheels thanks to a quick trip to Eveline street to negotiate the purchase of the car essentials. We also got started on a play kitchen, repairs to the bamboo screen and a play water table which will be a lot of fun for the kids when term starts next week.
Many thanks to everyone who came and helped out.

Wake up! reaches 5 year milestone

Wake up! was officially opened on the 19th of February 2010, meaning that we are now five years old! Much has been achieved in the last five years, and we have big plans for the next five. Celebrations will be planned for sometime soon.
